Fifteen years ago, Zhaxi inherited the properties due to her according to the will of her uncle in Nepal. She brought them back home to Tibet, and established its first privately owned company--Potala Carpet Co. Ltd. at DambaVillage in front of Zhaibung Monastery. Now 58, she owns properties valued at 20 million Yuan.

When I reached Potala Carpet Co. Ltd. on a spring morning in 2001, accompanied by Wamlang, Secretary of Secretariat of the Tibet Administration for Industry and Commerce, Zhaxi, its Board Chairman, greeted me with broad smile and a demeanor appealing to all.

“Welcome to my factory. It covers 6,000 square meters,'' she said as she showed me around and described the factory's history. “I purchased the factory premises at a cost of 600,000 Yuan. Now, my properties are valued at some 20 million Yuan.”….more
